M61 new
      #5782533 - 04/06/13 08:02 PM Attachment (70 downloads)

Here is a shot of M61 taken on Friday from a local site;
Mag 10.2; size 6.3 x 5.8';
Scope: C9.25 @f/6.3;
Camera: Canon 60Da @ISO 3200; 34-Min (90 sec subs); IDAS filter;

A beautiful night but the wind picked unexpectedly at Midnight and caused me to quite the shot early.

John

Cool target, and a nice shot. This one must be low DEC? I have never considered going after it.

Nice job on a not too easy target, John.

Thanks Mike, Scott,

For you in Alaska Mike, it would be low DEC.

Scott, I was expecting to get more detail on this especially when I look at the M61 images on Google Images. But these guys are shooting with much bigger optics (Adam Block, etc)

John

I know what you mean - One thing I learned quickly is that if I really want to be disappointed with my images, all I have to do is compare them to the Adam Block, Robert Gendler, Ken Crawford, and Rogelio Bernal Andreo astrophotos that I so admire! On the other hand, it also helps to raise the bar....

Nice to be working with full collimation. This was my first outing with it.

Thanks Joe!

It's galaxy season with the Coma cluster coming up to ideal position and there are lots more in there that I am going to try. But next time around I am going to use my Orion 10" astrograph; at f/3.9 it will take me deeper faster.
