C 2011 L4 Panstarrs from Bray Co Wicklow. Ireland new
      #5770346 - 04/01/13 09:40 AM Attachment (25 downloads)

C 2011 L4 Panstarrs from Bray Co Wicklow. March 30th 20:49 UT.
25 X 100 Binoculars , pastels on black paper. Alt 10 degrees. Distance 1.27 AU from Bray and my eye. Thrilled to see it , the sketch is a bit rough. Just a fleeting glimpse of the fan shaped tail, not long enough to include. The star in the middle just beside the comet was Pi 29 Andromeda. Nucleus bright and I guess about Mag 3.3 as it was brighter than Pi And at 4.3 . Thank goodness for Mirach guiding the way, lots of low creamy cloud in the NW. I was both lucky and thrilled to see it , did a little dance lurking in the shadows :-) Shared it with some people walking by.

This may be my one and only view of Panstarrs as the weather here has been awful this winter.
First view , and first light for my big binos

Dee

Dee.

Wow, 25 X 100 binos, that's something. You must have a very narrow FOV as mine it is in my 20 X 80. Nice to see you have seen the comet. Same for me, I only saw it once. Nice sketch in an unusual representation.

Andre.

Thanks Erik and Andre , the binoculars have a 2.5 FOV . I have them on a monster strong tripod that is meant for a film camera they are great on it. They weigh 4.5 Kg !

Dee,

Love the sketch. It looks like a hole in the sky appeared just so you could sketch it.
Very pleasing view.

Frank

Hi Dee,

Very nice sketch. How do you like your new binoculars?

I have a pair of 22x100mm binoculars and like them a lot:

Dee,
Beautiful sketch. I had only a few views but it is still a lovely target.

Thanks Eric Tommy an Ken

Eric I love these binoculars and I bought a monster tripod to hold them for me. :-) Manfrotto tripod 545GB with a Manfrotto head 504HD . The head is for a film camera and has a slide on mechanism. This set up makes it easy for me to attach the binoculars and I am very confident using them even when they are above my head. I had them on an old tripod before this and was very nervous with them as they are so heavy.
The moon looks like an etching in them and I look forward to sketching it weather permitting.

Dee

That's a lovely sketch Dee! Too bad I did not had the chance to see Panstarr. But I am glad to be able to look at your work and imagine what a wonderful sight it would have been!

Jean
