ASIGN Observatory II - Planetary first light. new
      #5785620 - 04/08/13 10:48 AM

First light out of my freshly purchased planetary camera. This is just a screen grab from the live view without any calibration or real knowledge of what I am doing yet. Still trying to work out the capture program and settings. I am pretty impressed with the image scale though.

I had a bit of a play around with it tonight for the first time but really need to read up on how to do this. The help file is not really helping yet. It's going to take a while for me to make sense of it all. Can't wait to work it out!

Camera: Imaging Source DBK618 on an ED 120mm refractor telescope with a 2.5x powermate and a 2x Barlow.

John Earl (Asimov) has some good tutorials on DBK settings, video capture, and processing into images (debayering, etc.) There may be some in Cloudy Nights archives from a couple years ago. He recently has been posting this stuff at another astronomy site called, "Astroholics," the last couple years. May see some stuff over at "Ice ins Space" as well. He is one of the most proficient users of the DBK. I shoot monochrome. So, John is the best tip I can give. Glad to see you are taking the plunge into planetary. Welcome. Enjoy, And, good luck.

Paul

Thanks Paul. Yes I know Asimov so I'll be looking him up when I can get to it again.

Cheers mate.

Baz.
