OPTEC FocusLynx setup or FLI DF-2 new
      #5790672 - 04/10/13 04:33 PM

Looking for a good auto focus setup for my AP140, and it looks like either will work. The costs are close enough that price isn't the determining factor, and with the new focus motor allowing the user to just disengage to have manual focus capability, one of my main objections to the OPTEC/FeatherTouch setup has been removed. With that in mind, I'd like some other opinions on which to buy and why.

I've never used the optec. I do have two FLI PDF's. The absolute step size rocks. When it says it is at step 3500, it's at 3500. I also have two feathertouch focusers/motors and I find their repeatability sporadic. Too much focuser slip from the motor gear or the focuser itself. Backlash setup is inconsistent. Others have found the feathertouch wonderful. I too like the feathertouch, just manual operation.

Thanks...That's kinda what I suspected. I did find an excellent deal on a used FLI PDF focuser (not the older blue model) and I went with that, so I guess I'll have first hand experience soon. :-)
