Multimedia Planetarium Software for Meade Scopes
      #5797873 - 04/14/13 05:45 AM

Dear All

Elsewhere in the CN site, I have posted questions regarding my choice of next scope; either the 8" LX90 or LS.

Having 'played' with both scopes I believe my decision will ultimately be based upon the future flexibility of the former against the multi-media/outreach capabilities of the latter.

To that end, are you aware of any Planetarium software which:

1. Has an extensive astronomical encyclopedia/database, that can provide a muli-media tour/description (similar to the 'Astronomer Inside' capability of the LS)
2. Can create and upload tours to a Meade scope
3. Can control a Meade scope

Looking forward to hearing your views.

Thanks in advance! Matt S

Astroplanner can import Autostar Tours and additional tours that other users have created and uploaded to the Astroplanner website. Even the unregistered version will allow you to test this function out. Just select File/Open to import one of the pre-written tours.

TheSky does not have any multimedia capability in the form of audio tours. However, it is famous for accuracy and the ability to import many different databases. It has a long learning curve due to it's complexity.
