astro physics 1200GTO

Went in mikes camera today in boulder, co to pick up a new lens for the slr and they had it setup right in the door way. It had a refractor mounted on it of some sort (astro physics refractor that is - probably the 170mm) but jesus that thing was enormous. They were asking 30k for it =)

I'm assuming that the price was for the mount and scope, no?

David

It would be interesting to know exactly which AP refractor was on the mount.

The mount is worth around 8,000 and depending on the scope, anywhere from 9,500 to 35,000.

ill see if i can get back over there today. He said it was on consignment from astro physics so he didnt have the particulars but yes the 30k was for both the scope and mount. The scope was ever bit of 6ft long but only said astro physics but no model that I could see.

Sounds like it might have been the 175mm Starfire.

If it's a 175 that's a screaming good deal.

$8k for an AP1200? It would have to be an older one and show significant signs of wear to be that price. A friend just took delivery of a brand new AP900 and it was a few dollars under $11k - and that's the AP1200's little brother!

When the 175mm was introduced I saw it displayed as a bundle with the AP1200 for the regular retail price, which was somewhere in that price neighborhood; $25K-$30K. Of course, neither is available new any more so it may have some rarity value enhancement.

AP1200 are definitely not pulling in a premium from not being available... the AP175... well, nobody knows yet right? if someone has sold one, it was private

Used 1200 prices have softened up since the 1600 started shipping. That might be the last new one available, though. Dunno why that would enhance its value, but anything is possible!

Hard to tell until a 175 comes up for sale, but when I posted that I had been notified I was going to receive one, I had several private offers over $30K for it before it was even in my hands.

If it didn't say "175 StarfireEDF" on the dew shield then it wasn't the 175.
