I am not a fan of the 4 bolt riser idea. I know you need to be able to thread in from the bottom but there are other ways. What I did is I had a local machine shop make an adapter plate that bolted via center bolt to the bottom of the mount and then this adapter plate had a flat flange around the bottom with curved/elongated bolt holes where it would bolt to a flat plate with female threads that matched up. Nice and solid and adjustable.

Can you post a pic of your setup. Your saying you already made a adapter for the VX to pier mount. Please post a pic of it. Thanks Bob

Will it bolt to a CG-5 tripod?

No. the screw and the centre hole are the same size but the azimuth adjusting post has a different spacing.

Looks like a CG5 Pier top would be easily adapted to this mount... One new hole, 5 minutes with the tap and die set and you are in business.

Bob,

http://www.pierplates.com/ - expensive but very nice and complete with hardware

Another popular option is to buy the Orion SVP pier extension and use the hardware from that. Same idea for the Antares piers.

http://www.kendauzat.net/ used to but I believe no longer offers products.

There are a few other options like those who supply entire piers (www.skyshedpod.com is one example). These folks might also offer just the pier plates.

I talked to Dan at Pier Plates and he has a prototype for the VX being tested and will probably be on his site in a week. I would love to find a reasonably prices portable pier for the VX I have on order...

I have a local machine shop make a aluminum pier top for both my CG5 and CGEM (they are different) for $30 each.

If you know a machinist with a lathe these are easy to make and crank out.
