Visual nebula filters with video? new
      #5803303 - 04/16/13 06:19 PM

Hi all,

Conditions here have been poor to be able to try this out for myself, & curiosity is driving me nuts.

So, can visual nebula filters be used with video? OIII, NPB, UHC, Deep Sky - any experience anyone?

I know that there are dedicated CCD filters, but from what I know, these are not really suitable as visual filters. Video is a different application.

Cheers,

Alex.

Alex, Simple answer ... yes. The tend to work very well but there are sometimes some things to watch for.

Filters for imaging often have wider response (go deeper into UV and into deep red - Ha). This is quite apparent for different UHC filters. None of the UHCs are bad but some work better than others with CCDs because of some increased Ha capabilities.

The DeepSky filter is also quite popular for general CCD viewing under light to moderate light polluted skies, it diminishes some of the worst LP and doesn't reduce the good light too much.

Thanks Mark. I look forward to giving them a go.
