Hi,

The Astronomical League has good materials on starting a new club: check-out the information at <http://www.astroleague.org/al/socaids/socaidid.html>.

I think affiliation with the AL is a Good Thing (TM): it provides your members access to recognition for completing observing programs (which give people something to aim for) and a solid connection to the larger community of amateur astronomers.

Good Luck!

Sam

Form a group to serve as officers--secretary, treasurer, outreach, inreach coordinator; dues--$20 annually, or so; have a good balance of club member's only events, and outreach.
Good luck--and congratulations!

If you are going to start a non-profit, I think you will need a board of directors including, president, tresurer, and secretary.
