We contacted the food provider (Fox’s Pizza) and have updated the info on the BFSP website. In summary, they plan to be open Thursday 11am-11pm, Friday and Saturday 7am til at least 2am, maybe later. A list of menu items/specials can be found on the BFSP main page, www.bfsp.org

With clear skies but cold weather predicted those hours are disappointing. Hopefully the hours are well advertised when people arrive at the registration booth since everyone was used to 24 hour service.

As it says on our web page, if people are buying food, they will stay open longer past 2am. So I am not sure what there is to be "disappointed" about ZB. They are also open on Thursday which is before the BFSP officially begins.

The sky is the deepest blue I have seen up here today. Right down to the horizon it almost perfect. I can't wait for tonight!

Report from the field:

First night down. Looks like about 200+ people already here. We were surprised to see so many so soon. The skies were clear until about 10:00pm when we started seeing some wispy clouds moving in and out. Around 12am the clouds were thicker. Many turned in (like ourselves) early. It rained a little around 4am.

In spite of the clouds, the observing was good until we turned in. I stuck with familiar targets for now. Tonight, I will try to do a more serious observing run. Glad I brought cold weather gear

And the view through Rob Teeter's 20" was awesome! Thanks Rob!

Jason

Frost warning for tonight. Field is packed and open spots are getting hard to find. Venders already setup and have some of my money.

Thanks, Mike. I hope it will still be there toorrow. I was going to ask if the field is so full it might not be worth coming...

Couldn't register for the party but will be up Saturday for the public viewing session. Looking forward to seeing some of you and eyeballing some of the awesome rigs!

Report from the field:

Thursday night was magical. The skies were very clear but it was pretty cold. I picked up a used 80mm Stellarvue ED doublet that I used for the first time that night. The view of Andromeda was spectacular in it! I used to own a 90mm Megrez, and I missed the views from a refractor so this was a nice acquisition.

Last night we got about 3 hours of observing until the soup came in and we decided to pack the scopes up. It was disappointing but it was nice to get a few hours in.

I am very impressed with this place and want to return on a new moon weekend. It is such a nice facility.

Nice to meet some of my fellow Cloudy Nighters here.

Hopefully post more later but the IPad cramps up my hands... Heheheh

Jason

Looks like it's supposed to cloud up later tonight. Anybody know if the Public session will still be a go? Even if it clouds up, it would still be great to get to talk to some people and oggle some equipment.

We're at a Camp Ground approx. 30 miles west of CS and I have my SN10 here. Last night, planned on coming up for the Public Session but well, it was totally clouded over and raining. So that was a no go. I had my LXD75 mount set up from the previous night here and covered with a tarp with the scope itself stored in our motor home. Got ready to go to bed around 10:30, looked out the window. Stars! Errr. Said the heck with and went to bed anyway.

Luckily I went up a day early on Thursday because of the JAM PACKED field and it being the only good night.

2/3rds of our group including myself left after the raffle due to a wet forecast. The weather sucked but it was still nice to be there.

I'm curious to know how others feel about the door prizes this year and previous years.

I couldn't believe there was a dob equatorial platform as a prize. I cant recall the vendor's name.

I didnt win anything this year. BUT I was tickled that During Rob Teeters talk about the evolution of the dobsonian a picture of mine was used of a boundary layer fan that had been posted on the forum here.
