I was on Orion road I think it was.. Next to Del, Tom, John and Dave. . I made a great friend named Eric but lost his email address and can't recall his last name. Shoot. Hopefully he or someone who knows him will see this and shoot me a message. Thanks.

MessiTom:
Hi
there was a guy near us (maybe roughly 50 years old) with a (approx) 25" obsession that was with his older dad, but i didnt get his name. this guy had their upper cage assembly blow out the back of their pickup truck on the way to the party. as if thats not bad enough its not the first time it happened. but no, this was not the guy. had a small pickup truck. pretty sure he said he was from PA. thanks for any help

For anyone that was freezing thursday night when it was in the 30's, I highly recommend getting one of the $99 liner vests here:

http://www.heatedclothing4u.com/#!core-heat/cee5

I had the vest and an extended battery and was nice and toasty the entire night (despite an autoimmune issue making me very susceptible to the cold) while people around me had to call it a night to warm up in their sleeping bags.

That was a great time. I hope to go back next year as I had so much fun. I am glad that I was there early prior to the star party as the clear night was the night before. It sure was cold. I was warm enough but should have packed more winter gear (like my electric socks! hehehe)

I will post pictures this evening.

hi all,

Even though the skies weren't as clear for as many nights as I would have liked,
Still, it was a good time spent with Kiski Astronomers club members, and friends, (new and old), from around the region.
Took a lot of observing field camera pictures and deep-sky video-captures, which will take awhile to process.
I'll send out a Starparty report sometime in the next week or two, but for now, here's a couple of Youtube videos.

BFSP2013 Bolide
http://youtu.be/qnLZlHE6ut8
Taken at the 2013 Black Forest Star Party held at Cherry Springs State Park, PA.
Night of Wednesday, Sept 4th 2013 at 11:08pm - bolide falling in the SE thru Aquarius.
It was as bright as the Full Moon, casting shadows on the ground.
Unfortunately, the bolide itself was on the left-hand side, just out-of-frame of the video capture session.
But, you can see it lighting up the clouds. A number of people on the observing field reported hearing a boom.
Captured using a Samsung SDC435 video camera using a 3mm CCTV lens.
Time-lapse 1 frame every 30 seconds over multiple hours - exposure up to 8 seconds.

BFSP2013 Nebulosity's

Taken at the 2013 Black Forest Star Party held at Cherry Springs State Park, PA.
Spans several days during the week of Sept 1st.2013.
Captured using a Samsung SDC435 video camera using a 3mm CCTV lens.
Time-lapse 1 frame every 30 seconds over multiple hours - exposure up to 8 seconds.

That's unfortunate, the nights will be shorter and the weather may not be quite as good as in september.

They schedule around the new moon so I guess we have to take it when we can. Can't wait. Anyone ever been to the other one that's up there in the spring?

The Cherry Springs star party in the spring is similar. The weather at that time of the year is usually cloudier and wetter than in September.

I'd rather have it in the 2nd or 3rd week of September when the nights will be longer and clearer. Guess i'll just end up driving up that weekend for an unofficial star party.

With those date is August I don't think I'll be making it next year. I work at a company that installs Point of Sale Equipment into school districts. August is our busiest time.

Getting a 1/2 day in September was tough enough....August will be impossible.

Thank you to everyone that attended BFSP 2013 last weekend! While the weather wasnít stellar, there are some things we just canít control. ;-) If you have any input on the things we can do something about, please let us know by taking the post-star party survey. Registered attendees should have received an email containing a link to the survey. If you have not already done so, please take a few minutes to give us your feedback.

Thanks again and hope to see you at next year's BFSP!

That can't be with a clear sky. If so then the sky at Cherry Springs has seriously degraded. SQM postings for there previously used to be in the 21.5 and up range.

I used my SQM on Thurs. at about 11:30 PM and got readings from 21.52 to 21.75. An average of around 21.65.
A friend who was with me used his and obtained 21.25 to 21.42.
In the past our readings were very similar so possibly the batteries were weak on the other two meters.
I thought the skys were darker this year than at last years BFSP but not as dark as maybe 4-5 years ago.

John
