Supernova in NGC 7331
      #5819663 - 04/24/13 12:20 PM Attachment (55 downloads)

The Bright Supernova web site announced this morning the discovery on April 21, 2013 of a young SN in the spiral galaxy NGC 7331 in the constellation Pegasus. Yes, this is the galaxy near the famous galaxy group called Stephan's Quintet. The SN is mag 15.5 in V and should brighten over time. Attached is a image from Wikisky with colors inverted showing the location of the new SN. The image spans ~ 1 degree of RA and 1/2 degree in Dec. This should be a nice object for early risers or a nice treat after an all nighter of observing.

This is a pretty dramatic location for a supernova within that galaxy, if it gets brighter.

Those darn galaxies and their inconvenient supernovae! Guess we'll have to get up before dawn to see this one.

How inconsiderate of that star to explode at such an inopportune time!

Here's an image I took this morning (5-4) of SN 2013BU in NGC 7331 with the SLOOH remote observatory.
