Anyone have a TMB/APM 130 CNC Classic? new
      #5821137 - 04/25/13 12:22 AM

I'm just curious if anyone has this scope and your impressions of it. I'd love to see some pics of the scope and images taken with it. It seems like these scopes are relatively rare and I'm curious how many are actually out there.

I had one, awesome lens. My favorite scope ever for putting in a pair of 24 pans in a bino with no corrector and panning through the Milky Way. Didn't take pics back then.

I wish I could buy that one, but I already have the 115mm version. I'm just curious how many of these are out there and to see some images taken with this scope.

No but I have a TMB 92L I am quite happy with.

There shouldn't be any shortage of images taken with the TMB/LZOS 130/780 or 130/1200 lenses. Dietmar Hager uses the latter extensively, along with a handful of other TMB lenses. CNC Classic is a tube type only. The lenses were the same regardless of vintage. Performance was not superior for any given tube type, simply aesthetics.

I certainly agree that the lens is where the true performance of these scopes is, but I also think that the classic tube does have at least one advantage over other tubes. My 115mm classic tube deals with thermal shifts very very well. I don't even use a dew strap (except for very brief times when really cold in winter or really warm/damp in summer). In that sense the classic tube has an advantage over the newer LW tubes. Also, this isn't really part of the tube, but the original German CNC classic focuser is really top notch and machined very well. It's adjustable and this is the first scope I've owned that I didn't immediately want to upgrade the focuser to a feathertouch or moonlite.
