Australian in New Mexico
      #5821181 - 04/25/13 01:29 AM

I am going to be in Northern New Mexico for the May 9 New Moon, and I am wondering what is the best star party to get to. I have been looking online here and elsewhere and it is very confusing. Any hints as to where to look would be greatly appreciated.

I am looking forward to seeing some parts of the sky I never usually get to see. I've only seen the Andromeda Galaxy once in Australia and it was so low down and in a dome of light pollution, I've seen better views of the sombrero galaxy. Also, looking forward to seeing the veil.

I'll be bringing my 9x63 orions but the dob is staying home.

If you are really looking for a star party, as Joe C said, Texas Star Party is only 7 hours down the road. It is a classic modern event and we have hosted many folks from Australia over the years. You will get the views you are looking for in the company of many fellow enthusiasts. There will be many large apertures for you to get some views while you are there.

I hope you have a good time while you are here in any case.
