Foam Packaging for CPC 1100? new
      #5820303 - 04/24/13 05:24 PM

Any of you CPC 1100 owners out there have the original foam packaging they wan to get rid of? My next project is a case for my (new to me) CPC 1100. I picked up one of those Huskey cases from Home Depot. I'm happy to pay shipping and handling costs.

-Mike

I can't help but notice that the biggest issue that comes up with the CPC 1100 series is "how do I store/transport this beast". My solutions are past prototyping and are currently in production.

Sorry, I can't help with the foam......no room to store it!

Also, does anyone know what type/denisity of foam is used in the original packaging of the CPC 1100?

I'm building a laminated (read plywood) dolly that holds the CPC 11 at tripod height for the 200 foot run to my spot. The dolly will double as an adjustable observing chair!

The astro gear has to stay in my wood shop so I'm building some decent cabinets to safely store the stuff in as dust-free of an environment as possible.

The 1100 shipping foam wont work in the stanley box. Its way to big or the box to small depending on how you look at it. The foam for a 800 works. For the 1100 people were useing camping pads and such. Im about to start on a plywood box for mine so I can use the original foam.

The only time my CPC needs protection is during transport to a dark site. It gets plenty of padding and protection within the rear hatch of my vehicle.

What kind of padding and protection do you use for your scope in the trunk of your car? I wouldn't want it rolling around or bouncing with unexpected vehicle maneuvers.

I line the floor of the small cargo area of my Honda CR-V with several large 3" thick pieces of high density sponge foam, lay the scope on it, and fill all the voids with more of this foam. The scope nests securely, no rolling. I'll throw my sleeping bag on top for extra measure. This only takes a couple minutes to do.
