Flamsteed P, Surveyor 1 landing site
      #5825884 - 04/27/13 08:51 AM Attachment (28 downloads)

Here my latest moonsketch, again an interesting Lunar 100-object (number 68). Most scientist think Flamsteed P is an old flooded crater, but some explain his origin by volcanic activity. It has also a historic value as the landing site of Surveyor 1. It was the first American (soft) landing on another celestial body, some months after the Russian Loena 9. I was a little too early because the ringstructure wasn't visible entirely. Hope you like it anyway.

Jef,

That is an ancient large crater, beautifully captured.
The bright highlights on the crater rims give a realistic look to match the eyepiece view at sunrise.

Jef,

Another fine sketch - excellent details on the Surveyor!!! Kiddings aside,, in lunar drawings Ive always appreciated the more spartan judiciously placed features in a drawing and the attention to light and shadow this affords. Great work. Was this anoyhrrv public sketch?

Thanks.

Pete

Very nice work, Jef, and very interesting as well. You do know how to make the moon look gloomy and barren. I like it!

Jef, this is a lovely gem of a work. It has such a gentle feel to it. It is detailed, but not overworked. This is a superb job you've created.

Alex.
