ES 30mm 100° Eyepiece new
      #5811307 - 04/20/13 04:06 PM

Well I looked thru the 30mm 100° at NEAF today, the rep only kept the eyepiece setup in the 6in for a little while, I got there before he setup the 6in CF for astrophotography.

Why would you have that scope setup so you can't look thru it?

I thought the 21mm Ethos was big, but OMG!

I did have to refocus the scope after the center was in focus to get the last 5-10% of the edge into focus.

I saw it too, all I can say is WOW what a field of view. What was incredible was the 9MM 120*, very impressed.

the 9mm was smaller than I thought it would be, but standing next to the 30mm a 6in sct would look small.

I don't think that was a 30MM I really think it is an 8" SCT

Yes, the 9mm 120 is spectacular. Too bad they stopped it down after the first batch (that gave about a 140* field.
Clears,

I forgot all about about NEAF this weekend. I also didn't realize ES was making a 30mm/100º eyepiece. I just traded a 31T5 for a ES 25mm/100º. I had only one short first light under pretty dark skies. Until I get a few uses under my belt I don't want to comment too much on it, but a very wide FOV and I had trouble seeing the field stop with my peripheral vision. No problem seeing it with any of the Ethos.

It looks like the 30mm ES82 in my 4" refractor. It doesn't look that large in the 6" thinking of it that way.

I'd like to see it in a 24in f3 dob with a 3in fT sips focuser. talk about widefield...

Also a 3" PARACORR to correct for all that COMA

I can imagine the price and of course the people on the refractor forum "imagine the Central Obstruction that reflector must have no contrast"

That combination would give an 8.7mm exit pupil. That is way to big to wanna use. You might only get the effective aperture of 18 or 20 inches or so as your eye could not dialate big enough to take in the large light cone. Best to stick with the 21mm Ethos for that scope with paracorr.

how does the paracor fit in the equation with exit pupil cause without it I get:

61x mag
true field 1.64°
10 exit pupil

The paracorr multiplies the fl by 1.15X. So the exit pupil would be 1.15 times smaller. But no 3 inch paracorr exists.

An F/5 22" or 24" with a 4.5" or 5" secondary would work with this EP. No mythical 3" Paracorr required, and it would get good illumination according to Mel Bartel's calculator.

That hazard of a 4.5 foot drop with a 7 lb EP on to the head of onlookers must be considered.

(But I suspect that if you deploy this EP, it is going to be a major operation, with special counter-weighting required, so it is not going to be leaving the focuser).

and it would definitely help the f5's narrow fov.

.98° vs .69° of a 21 ethos.

I don't think that they are "making" this EP. It is just a prototype to gage interest.

I did however see both the 25mm and 9mm 120 for sale at one or more vendors at NEAF.

Not a prototype, it's supposed to be available in a few months.
