CGE Pro beta testers needed
      #5832617 - 04/30/13 03:44 PM

Derik from Celestron is asking for CGEPro beta testers for a new motor control firmware version. If you have a CGEPro mount and you can test - please go to TeamCelestron.com, register and follow the thread on Firmware/MotorControl/Version 31.15.

This is the same version currently being tested for the CGEM mount - to solve the dec cogging issue. Testing for the CGEM is going very well - no more dec motor cogging. Hopefully we can get some more testers for the CGEPro and move it along as well as the CGEM firmware.

Thanks,
Doug

Derik from Celestron can PM me and I'll drive over to Celestron and pick one up to test for him. I'm local.

What about the CGEM DX, does it not need an upgrade or is it being tested as well?

The CGEM is being tested but there are are a few (plenty?) of cgem testers. There is only 3 pro testers and that includes one of Celestron's/Derick.

They got a hundreds in the warehouse (maybe).. break out the beta testing line!

CGEM and DX are basically the same mount with different tripods. the firmware is the same.

Well, that and different electronics and a different counterweight bat.

I was actually thinking the DX has the same inherent problems as The CGEM with a more sturdy tripod. The higher current chip (allows for a higher imbalance before frying) and the larger CW shaft don't solve the biggest CGEM faults. The tripod would help some flexure problems at max weight capacity as the stock can be a bit flimsy when fully extended. There are other solutions than spending the difference between the two however,.

If Celestron does not abandon the plans to put VX servos and electronics into the CGEM or DX, all bets are off as this would be a game changer.
