Using Autostar to observe stars
      #5834692 - 05/01/13 03:53 PM

Star maps designate some objects within a constellation by a greek letter followed by a number. (i.w. Cancer gamma, Cancer alpha or Sigma 1245)

Some stars also have a designation number (Sigma 1245 has a #083307)
Can anyone tell me how to enter these identification numbers into Autostar?

Thanks for your assistance.

Why not just use the constellation tour within the Aurostar? You can step through watch star within the constellation.

Constellation tours are great! You can walk the stars in it or view the best DSO's in it.

Excerpt from http://www.meade.com/autostar/autostars.html

"For example, to enter NGC 6960 on the Autostar display, the observer selects in sequence (and in a few seconds of keystrokes): OBJECT/DEEP SKY/NGC OBJECTS/6960. When GO TO is pressed, the telescope moves at 5 per second on both axes, simultaneously, to place NGC 6960, the Veil Nebula in the constellation Cygnus, in the telescope's field of view."
