Decided to try the 5x powermate after being frustrated with the colour balance using my 3x Tal. Quite pleased how these came out considering the large scale produced by the QHY cmos chip (1.5x larger than with DFK)

Attached are colour, IR mono and a IR/Colour combo shot (all actual capture size). 22 degrees elev.

At 22 degrees, great results, Stuart. Nicely processed. I think the low altitude probably obscured some detail and color. Color balance looks pretty good. A fair amount of the c-ring is visible. That feature is a challenge for me. Thanks for sharing.

Paul

Thanks Paul. The 5x powermate really needs great seeing to perform with the cmos chip as the image scale is so large but I prefer the overall balance of the images compared to those produced with the 3x tal. Ideally I need a 3x tv barlow.

Nicely done Stuart - great colours! You are further up north than me - seeing is everything with Saturn from here...

I look at Leo now and think that's where Saturn was wandering just last summer...

Stuart, you did a great job from 22 degrees elevation especially with the 5x Powermate. The CD is discernable along the center of the planet in the IR mono image; it's faint but it's there!

Stuart, excellent image for the altitude. The camera settings seem good, just need a higher Saturn. Thanks for posting

Steve

Pretty amazing images for 22 degrees alt Stewart. All of this testing you are doing will really pay dividends when you get a chance to image at a reasonable alt.

Well done.

Trevor

Great result Stuart at 22 degrees! You got the best that alt could give you!

Thanks for your comments guys!

We've been very lucky to have several clear nights this past week in the UK and although seeing has been no great shakes it has given me enough opportunities to understand the QHY cams more. The cams are great but the larger image scale adds its own issues which by the looks of it means forking out more cash on a different barlow lol

I will try again tweaking the colour channels with the 3x tal as it seems to produce a very red image and I did reduce red more on one avi I took with the tal on this night which did produce a better colour but not as nice as the powermate.

Very nice result! It must take courage to try imaging at 22 deg. elevation. I am amazed that you used a 5x Powermate for this image. I find it very difficult to focus properly with the 5x powermate due to the weak image on my laptop display.

George

Thanks George. The QHY5L-ll is very sensitive so I can get a pretty bright image at 25-30fps.
