Hi Dee,

A beautiful close in sketch with nice activity in H-alpha.
I did bring a scope out with a white light solar filter to have a look at this sunspot and others.
Wonderful work Dee.

Frank

Dee,
Very nice work. I was told the PST didn't show much detail. More wrong information your sketch is proof it does. I only looked through a h-alpha once and it was mostly cloudy so I didn't get an idea of what they can do. You have a beautiful sketch. Very vibrant and full of life.

Thanks Tom and everyone
Ken I see a huge amount of detail in the halpha view of the sun . It is a really enormous challenge to capture even a fraction of it. Constant tuning and focusing of the telesope is the only way to see sharp detail.
The sunspots umbra and penumbra are best visible when nothing else is , so I usually draw them first then tune up to see the mottling , filaments and proms. Even with these objects fine tuning and focusing shows varying detail in tiny amounts up and down the band.
Solar sketching is in my opinion the most difficult form of astronomical drawing. It is also the most frustrating and enjoyable activity at the same time. Frustrating because it is so difficlult to capture detail in the way that I see it . And is enjoyable while making that journey :-)

Dee

Nice, Dee. I also checked out your website. Lots of good stuff in there, especially liked the GIF.

I love it too, Dee! I immediately believe you that it took a lot of work to draw all this. The textures are so live-like that I get the impression being in a space-ship doing a very close fly-by (wearing a lot of sun cream... hehehe). Wonderful!!!
