Saturn and Jupiter recent sketches
      #5844981 - 05/07/13 06:53 AM Attachment (32 downloads)

I have been getting some wonderful weather in the Northeast. I was able to sketch Jupiter most nights and got some great looks at Saturn. I used a template for Saturn and tried to get some of the detail I was seeing. I tried freehand at first without a template and the results weren't very good. I had seeing of II or III all nights. I worked with a few filters and then pushed the Magnification on Jupiter and Saturn to 327X. Saturn looked a bit better at the higher magnification than Jupiter. All nights showed some nice detail on both planets. Saturn was very interesting in with a red 25A filter. I tried blue, orange and yellow on Jupiter. SEB and NEB showed interesting features all nights with some bulging on the NEB to my eye. I am still amazed at the detail that can be seen on each of these amazing planets with just a bit of patience.

Ken

My first Saturn sketch. Last year I saw no detail on the globe at all. I wasn't giving it enough time to see the detail.

Very nice work, Ken, my compliments! You're absolutely right that the law of patience applies just as much on planetary as on difficult deep-sky work, perhaps even more so. But from your drawings I immediately see that you've got a keen eye and very good observation skills.

Peter

Ken, I like your sketch of Saturn. You have a good eye for minute planetary detail.

Thanks Guys for the kind words.

I feel like I keep seeing more on Saturn each time I look. It sure is showing very well this year.

Hi Ken,

Nice sketches. It looks like your picking up more detail with each new sketch.

Best,

Ken,
Great looking sketches. I think you did
a fine job on each of them. It's great when the weather cooperates.

hi Ken,

good work. I like the Jupiter sketch. He stand now so deep and not many amateurs watch and controll his appearance.

Bye
Christian
