IC1396 in Ha only new
      #5847020 - 05/08/13 01:38 AM Attachment (21 downloads)

Well this is what I decided to try. I might 'do-over' with the CCD rotated 90* to get a different perspective, but I'm warming up to the FSQ85

There's been an issue for some time with my filter wheel not postioning correctly and I'm trying to get SBIG to fix it. Difficult when you have to wait soooo long for photon time to flesh out the problems! The artifact in the UPPER R/H corner is what it does and I've just been cropping in the past as with my other ~80mm scopes the image field not always great in the corners anyway.

Tonight I'll try and get more subs.

here is a link to a larger higher resolution version.

14 -900 second Ha. SBIG8300M, Baader 7nm Ha filter (I think the 5nm Astrodon arrives tomorrow!) This might be my last image with 7nm Ha filter. FSQ85 on mach1 with SSAG miniguider, processed in MaxImDLpro, CS5, and PSP.

Jim,

That looks fantastic! Lots of detail and good S/N ratio. Sorry you are having problems with your filter wheel. I hope SBIG works with you to get it fixed.

Regards,
David

Thanks a lot David, if it remains clear tonite I may try and get more Ha, or may decide to go for some OIII. Hopefully I'll wake up when my alarm goes off (when it's up enough for me to capture) instead of just sleep through it. That happened a few nights ago and I'm still kicking myself.

I hate it when that happens.. Nothing burns more than a perfectly good imaging session that is slept through.

That scope is really turning out to be a performer. Nice start! It will be interesting to see what you end up with.

Well, we've clouded up quite nicely here - so that may be it for the 7nm 'Ha'.

That's looking good Jim. It sounds like you are getting more familiar with the FSQ-85. Would you buy it again at this point?

We've been cloudy here for over a month now.

Thanks everyone. Always appreciate the 'enabling' here!

Give the weather patterns of recent times (at least as 'seems to me') I am hoping I can finish it in the coming months as it's in it's starting to get good phase of the year (attempt at humor) but like my Rosette and Thors Helmet there is no guarantee. We had a very nice string of clear nights here - amazing!

Terry, I think I would buy it again, when I remember all the issues and messing around with extension tubes and back distances and focuser position with huge extensions hung on them and still having to crop on ocassions. When it's so long between sessions you start to mainly remember 'the good times' and forget all the lost sub exposures and clear sky time 'getting it right'.

That's awesome. I've been enjoying the b-w imaging as well. Ha is fascinating!

thanks Chris I'm always amazed at the definition an Ha mono image gives and like them for the B&W bookplate look they give.
