An interesting Saturn...
      #5848240 - 05/08/13 05:12 PM

Greetings all.

Please find attached two drawings of Saturn made on 06-07 May 2013. The skies were quite hazy and seeing was never better than AIV, still there were some interesting features on the disk. It seemed as though there were two dark patches in the NEB(s) which may have extended into the NEBz. They were better seen with a W#80A filter but then the sky continued to get hazier and the image fainter. By the time of drawing 2 they had appeared to have moved with the planet's rotation.

A-Ring appeared to be slightly brownish and darker, B1-Ring bright and white in colour, B2-Ring seen, though not easily. C-Ring still seems to be fairly prominent at ansae edges.

Best wishes,
-Paul

Boy would I love to see Saturn in a 203mm Newtonian!

Beautiful work, Paul!

Paul,
I like the sketch very much. I had better seeing and did not get as much detail as you. I could see the darker tint on the A ring as you said. I tried with a 25A and saw some more detail at the pole. I will have to try a W80A.

Clear skies,

Ken.

Nice work Paul, one of your best. I've always appreciated your wratten filter drawings as complimentary to the natural view.

Pete

Inspiring, I hope to see that ring detail on night in my 8" scope. I have an EP that would give me that exact power.

Paul

Very nice sketching!

Thank you for the interesting report about the NEB. I'll be watching it closer now as seeing conditions allow.

Mark

Beautiful drawings, banding is very consistent with my May 4 observation, though I had better seeing.

Cheers,

Ivano
