Celestron f/6.3 or .7x focal reducer - EdgeHD 800? new
      #5849146 - 05/09/13 12:27 AM

Please refer to product descriptions:

What if I used the 6.3 on an EdgeHD using 1.25 eyepieces?
The 7 seems to be specifically geared/tweaked for the Edge800, but it's not a 6.3

(sad face due to naivete)

Celestron f/6.3 Reducer/Corrector is not compatible with EdgeHD Optical System. That said, has anyone tried it out?

Why does it have to be a 6.3? This is what is made for the Edge

You can't use the 6.3 because of the optics it contains are designed for a different set of scope optics.

A standard C-8 OTA costs $949, an Edge OTA costs $1300. That $350 buys you an OTA with additional optics to flatten curved field of the standard C-8. The F/6.3 focal reducer/corrector is also designed to flatten the field of the standard SCT.

So, if you try to use a standard F/6.3 reducer/field flattener with a scope that already has a flattener the result is that you now have a $1300 OTA with a curved field but in the opposite direction. Doesn't make much sense to me, that's why they designed the F/7 focal reducer specifically for the Edge.

a buddy has an 11" HD and the reducer. I believe it screws into the 3" threads on the back, where my the 6.3 screws into the 2" on my 11" non HD. As Jon was saying it's because of the extra lenses in the ota, so it needs a special reducer.
