Hi Brian, well what a coincidence that a 140 arrived here today with the same az worm drive which was a complete suprise since only yesterday I read this thread. The manual is c. dated 1954. So I guess that makes #3.

One....great condition too.

Since I was shining it up today, I thought I'd include a side by side picture with a 114 that shows the differences in design. Both the 114 scope (62mm) and the 140 scope (75mm) are close in age, having the straight lettering & aluminum focus knobs. The 114 mount has dongles (?not sure what they are called) that I doubt are original.

What are those aftermarket slow motion flex controls?

And what are those things on the other side. Looks like bolts. Can we see another picture from the other side.

Yep - on the early 114 mount they are slow motion controls, aftermarket I would assume - I'm not sure what original would look like for the very early 114s since this is my first. Picture of the other side below. The 140 mount has the spring tensioner on the Alt axis, in an attempt to keep this on topic...

Wow. have never seen that before. That is home grown. Sort of interesting. There maybe other people that would like to know more about that interesting way of controlling the slow motion. I bet it eliminates the spring action being overloaded and then the scope will not move.
