Crater Epigenes and surroundings

Yesterday I tried again to sketch on gray paper. An again I am not satisfied with thi smethode. The white pencils I have give far to less brightness. I brightened the most spectacular highlights afterward with acrylic paint to get something to present.

The instrument was my 6 inch Mak @ 144x, the image is mirror reversed.

Uwe,
Striking shadows. Very 3D. I haven't seen anything on grey paper, but I still like it. Nice work.

Don't feel so bad about the result, Uwe. It truly is very artistic and I've seen pictures in a museum of much lesser quality. A lovely and above all very personal impression!

Peter

I agree with other comments. I think it is good. Like you, I am using more grey paper. While I wish it was a darker grey, I have gotten used to it, and I find it nice to be able to put lights and darks on grey and see them while the object is being developed.

Uwe,

I like the way it looks on gray paper, it would be good if you could find a white pastel pencil you like but the acrylic works too for those bright highlights.
I see that you included crater Timaeus. This is always a fine region for sketching because the lighting stays the same over long intervals unlike the regions near the equator.
Well done, I enjoy your sketches they are always accurately shaped and shadowed.

Frank

Uwe, I like the use of the materials too! If paint is what you need to get the effect you are after, go for it! It's added real vitality to your work. It is a lovely, precious work.

Alex.
