Lunt 102ED Just Showed Up new
      #5867761 - 05/17/13 05:33 PM

First in case you were wondering, retracted it's 23 5/8" long (I almost didn't buy it because this information is not available anywhere).
The case is 26 1/2" x 10 1/4" x 9 3/4"
The focuser is quite substantial and smooth with 3 3/8" of travel.
Nothing on this scope is plastic, knobs, setscrews, even the dust cap is thick heavy threaded aluminum.
It comes with a dovetail rail (I didn't think it did) and nice hinged rings.
It doesn't come with a bracket for a finder or paperwork of any kind.
Luckily it is just the size I was looking for and so far I am happy and impressed with the quality.
I'll try for first light tonight and see how it goes.

That is the scope I will probably get. Nice to hear there is a dovetail as I too wasn't sure about that.:)

This is the one I'm aspiring to also. Wide-field views and well controlled aberrations for the $$$.

I purchased that scope last year and i am very satisfied. Only had a problem with a screw that went loose in the focuser and that problem was solved rapidly.

I use a 9x50 orion raci on that scope.

Tell us how you like the scope. I found it was not that much longer than my es80 and the sliding dew shield still works like a charm

Congratulations and please post your impressions

It was cloudy last night.
I found a great deal on a Vixen Porta II mount on Ebay last night since it is too heavy for the mount I have.
I'm thinking about upgrading ES 82 eyepieces while they are on sale, I only have Meade 4000 plossls and a couple big Russel plossls.
The weather is looking good for tonight so I may get out.

I believe the Lunt 102 is the same scope as this one made by Kunming United Optics.
http://www.united-optics.com/products/Telescope/ED_Telescope/102mm_F-7_ED.html
Last month I picked up the 110mm version, and found that it's an excellent scope.
Enjoy.

Steve

Steve:

The scope in your link is a triplet, the Lunt is a doublet, I believe it would be this one:

United Optics 102mm F/7 ED

I believe this scope has been sold by Astro-Tech, StellarVue, Orion, and William Optics, among others. I am glad Lunt picked it up, it's a nice scope, reasonable color correction, compact and affordable.

Jon

I got it out last night, my tripod won't hold it but I did look at the moon.
With a 6.4mm Meade 4000 Super Plossl there is no fringing in the center of the field and minor yellowish fringing near the edges no violet fringing even at the extreme edge. Good views didn't last long with it creeping down on the mount.
When my Porta II mount gets here I can compare it side by side with my 80mm Stellarvue AT1010 before I list it for sale. The 80mm is a very nice scope and as one of the reviews said when I bought it comparing the optics alone the TV Pronto was not worth the extra money.

Jon, your right, I have corrected the link.
Thanks

I was just going to say that the Lunt looks just like my old Orion 102mm. Nice scope, color is pretty good for a larger / fast doublet.

I picked up the 110MM version a little while ago.
Great little scope.

This looks like the next logical step up when I upgrade my refractor.

OK it's been almost a month. It looks very nice set up in your garden. How are the views holding up in the long run? Curious minds need to know LOL.
