CG-5 Toe saver thread size new
      #5878466 - 05/22/13 04:15 PM

anyone know off the top of their head what the thread size is on the toe saver end of a CG-5?

i'm kind of baffled right now because scopestuff sells extension shafts for various mounts and says its M6 threads but i know mines much bigger than M6, it looks close to 1/2" diameter so i'm thinking M12 threads like the CGEM is.

anyone able to confirm this for me so i can go by the hardware store on the way home? i need a light counter weight for my little scope i'm using on it so i'm going to pick up a box of washers and some threaded rod and nuts and make an extension counterweight as its easy to do and cheaper than buying a commercial one

it's not or at least mines not.

just got back from the hardware store, its M12-1.75 pitch but fortunately for me as they predictably did not have much in the way of metric threaded rod 1/2"-13 is close enough to M12-1.75 that it will thread in and work

The very early shafts were 6mm x 1.0. There are also some shafts that are 8mm x 1.25. These are fairly rare. The latest and largest is 12mm x 1.75.

explains a lot, i kinda figured that they must have changed them over the years.

on another note M12-1.75 will thread into 1/2"-13 pretty well but vise versa is not quite the case, fortunately it does thread in enough to stay on securely so my ghetto 10 dollar super light weight counterweight is working perfectly (threaded rod with a ton of washers and nuts on it lol)
