Abell 2151, the hercules cluster of galaxies new
      #5882750 - 05/24/13 05:26 PM

Hi all

I'm glad to present to you this image of Abell 2151, the hercules cluster of galaxies at 500 millions light years from France

I took the 4.5 hours of luminance under a good dark sky.
I took the RGB acquisitions at my home, under a light polluted sky.

Détails :
TSA102 F/D 8 - Atik4000 (kai 4022)
Astrodon L : 29x10 min bin 1x1
Astrodon R : 12x10 min bin 2x2
Astrodon G : 12x10 min bin 2x2
Astrodon B : 12x10 min bin 2x2
Temp : -20°C
FWHM : 4"
16/05/12 et 11/05/2013
Processing : Iris et CS2.

There is lot of colliding galaxies on this image.

Due to the lack of big elliptical galaxies at its center, and according to its great number of spiral galaxies, Abell 2151 seems to be a quite recent cluster of galaxies.
The galaxies of abell 2151 are gaz rich galaxies and they are very active (see ic1182 and its matter jet).

Here is the 2040x2040 version.

I found an image of Abell 2151 made by the VLT Survey Telescope (VST).
I tought it could be funny to make a comparison between my image and the VST one.

The brightest tidal streams of the colliding galaxies are clearly visible.
The powerful jet of matter of ic1182 and its S-shaped plume on the other side are also visible(on the bottom right of the last image, the fifth from left).

Larger version here

see you

lionel

Lionel,

really nice image. Your colors are really good. It is so hard to pull colors out of these faint galaxies.

You have some kind of artifact at the top left?

Thanks for sharing,

Dan

It always amazes me how many fuzzy gems there are in this area, nice shot!

Thank you, Dan, vpcirc and Chris .

The artefact at the top left corner is a reflection, I didn't even try to remove it!
Its due to a bright star (kappa herculis mag 5 i think) at the border of the sensor.

Very nice! I have been working on this one as well, but I don't have enough data yet. I like your version very much.

Very nice image! It certainly seems as though there are little "fuzzies" everywhere throughout the background, I can tell you took some time attempting to bring them all out.

Thank you Tyler and Brandon.
Bringing out fuzzies just requires enough data and some attention when you are using curves and levels.
These galaxies are quite bright so it doesn't need particular proccesing skills

I agree, very nice image. Great color. I've never tried this galaxy cluster but I'll certainly put it on my list.
