Celestron adds in Sky & Telescope Mag.
      #5898153 - 06/02/13 04:33 PM

For the first time in over 40 years, Celestron is no longer on the back cover of Sky & Telescope Mag. Of course Celestron or Valor Electronic adds were inside Sky and Scope Mag starting around 1963. So a run of 50 years.

Before Celestron, Unitron had the back cover for around 20 years or so.

Now there's a factoid I had no clue about, you really do learn something new ...
I have been getting S&T for roughly almost 3 years about now but never really noticed that it was always Celestron on the back until now. All I really paid heed to was that the scopes were typically gorgeous, initimidating-looking and out of my reach- weight, cost and experience-level-wise!

I'm looking at the back cover of my copy now (which is always a bit tattered in recent months, thanks for nothing USPS ) and see the striking, also intimidating-looking, blue-bodied LX600 series. What aperture scope is the one shown in the picture, 12"? 14"? (Not that I can afford either!)

Also out of curiosity, did old S&T issues from the 70's to early 80's feature The Celestron Girls http://www.philharrington.net/c-girls.jpg (courtesy of Sirs Phil and Rod) striking poses on the back covers alongside those beautiful Glossy-black and Pumpkiny-Orange OTA's? (C8 I will have thee, Someday, someday!)

I didn't check every issue, but a random check of issues through the 70's and 80's on the DVD set so no sign of the Celestron ladies...mostly just the equipment and deep sky objects with the occasional (male) observer at the helm.

I remember many of those images of "the girls" from Celestron ads that appeared in Astronomy magazine in the 70s and 80s. Perhaps Celestron used different ads targeted at different audiences in the various magazines?

Its actually not a "factoid" at all. You are misusing the term. A factoid is a bit of information that is misleading or void of fact.

I was reading some back issues the other day (I believe August and November or therebouts) from 2010 and noticed that Meade was on the back cover. So it looks like, while Celestron was dominant, Meade did supplant them now and then.

It's a bit late, but a correction to my post. The issues were from late 2012 and advertised the "new" ETX.
