IMO, you spent too much on the house and too little on the observatory. Get your priorities straight!

What a beautiful clean look - all round! Do you use the adjustable height pier to bring the equipment to a comfortable height for making adjustments?

It doesn't get much better than that

The pond gets plenty of visitors -- mostly my neighbor's friends and kids from the neighborhood. Of course, I encourage them to throw back what they catch, but some don't. The pond is currently stocked with Bass, Crappie Bluegill and at least one big ol catfish.

Of course. The PTII pier gets adjusted frequently for visitors (read kids). Also, since I interchange from reflector to refractor on occassion, the pier is exactly the solution for different scope heights. Attachment shows my refractor setup. Tak TOA150, FS78, FS60 and a couple of finders.

Very nice setup Scott - how long has it been in operation?

I completed the observatory last summer. Construction began in the spring of 2012. So, almost a year now.

Beautiful work Scott. One question - what kind of floor is that? It looks almost like a stone floor, but I'm guessing that can't be right.

The floor is a standard wood deck, but I covered in with interlocking rubber matting. The matting seals the space between the deck boards and helps to control the inside climate during storage and critter intrusion. The concrete pier base is isolated from the deck. See pic.

Really nice job and a beautiful observatory. I too considered the movable pier but was told that there were negative effects if imaging.

I can't imagine what negative effects there are unless you try to raise/lower the pier during an exposure. The PierTech II I use keeps objects centered during adjustments up or down with no impact to tracking. It's great for kids, because I can lower the scope so they can view through the eyepiece.
