Crater Atlas and Hercules
      #5918265 - 06/13/13 06:55 AM Attachment (16 downloads)

Last night we had some nice clear skies after a partly cloudy day. I set up my XT8 with a 5mm TMB Planetary II eyepiece which gave me about 240X. There was again go much to see on the Moon. I sketched craters Atlas and Hercules while my 7 year old ran around the yard in the twilight. She would stop over to check the progress and get a quick look. As we went in to put her to bed we saw the lovely crescent setting over the neighbors house.

Very nice sketch Ken.

How do you like the TMB Planetary II eyepiece when sketching the Moon?

Best,

Eric

Thank You Tom and Eric,

Eric,
To answer your question on the TMB II. I like it quite a bit. I prefer my one and only Televue Plossl but the TMB is a good eyepiece for $40.00 on sale from Astronomics. I have only a modest collection of eyepieces one 24mm Televue Panoptic (my favorite), the 5mm TMB, a 9mm Orion expanse, an 11mm Televue Plossl, A few Orion Plossls, and one 18mm Explore Scientific, and a 38mm Orion 2 inch. Both the ES and Orion are soft on the edges and the ES eyepiece shows an ugly yellow ring on the fringe ( for deep sky it is very nice.)

I would like to eventually get a few more TV Plossls or perhaps a 6mm ortho for planets and the Moon. Maybe even some day a Delos or Nagler when my budget allows. But, for the money the TMB does a nice job comparing with what I have in my case.

Clear Skies

Ken

Ken, This is an excellent lunar sketch. The two peaks in Atlas really stand up and the warn almost washed out appearance of Atlas E is spot on.

Thank you Jim,

I always see so much on the Moon. It really is such an amazing object. I started working on the Lunar 100 and I am still learning. Thanks for the encouragement.

Ken
