IEQ-30 vs AVX
      #5921036 - 06/14/13 06:20 PM

I am looking for the best light wt GEM to carry my C8HD and other small scopes for visual/LPI/video. Which of the two would be best. Which has the most user freindly HC and has the least computer bugs. I boiled my analysis down to the IEQ30 and AVX, keepimg to my budget.

I should add that I am familiar with Celestrons HC having previously owned a CG-5 and CGE. I am currently GEMless. I need a GEM that is light so I can move it around my observing area avoiding trees. Uncle Rod's blog is compelling enough for me to lean toward the AVX, but I give IEQ30 an chance.

Last month's ATT magazine had a review of the iEQ30, if that helps.

If you are looking for a light weight equatorial mount, you may want to consider the ZEQ25 from Ioptron it's lighter than both mentioned. There's a couple of threads on the mount. Paul Chase also made a few very nice videos regarding the mount as well as provided readers on these forums great information on that mount. I can't personally give any details as mine will finally arrive on Tuesday.

Thanks, I was wonder what the differences are between the two hand controls other than two lines of text for Celestron and four for Ioptron. I might just buy both and sell the one that does not work for me. I did look at the thread on the 25. It might work. Its to new and still has some bugs to work out.
