New (to me!) C9.25 arrived!
      #5927506 - 06/18/13 01:12 PM Attachment (90 downloads)

Just rec'd my main Planetary Imaging OTA, thanks Grumpyone! OTA is in great shape, and of course it's cloudy, hazy, hot, humid, but I did get a chance to set it on its new home and check out the bricks on the building down the road through my front door window!! Identified a Blue Bottle Fly on the wall so can't wait to try this out on Saturn. Weather is supposed to cooperate Wednesday and Thursday so we'll see how the sky conditions are.

Guess I ought to name this setup Black Beauty!

Congratulations Warren! The scope looks sharp on the Atlas. You realize that with planetary imaging you need the sky to be clear AND the seeing to be good. Yeah, like that's going to happen.

Is this a C9.25 Edge with Fastar capability? What does the OTA weigh?

It is an older model, not an Edge and not sure about Fastar compatible but I don't intend to use it for DSO's, just planetary.

I would say it is about 20 lbs

Warren, congrats. A quick look at the secondary (center of corrector) and see if it says, "Fastar"

You will enjoy it for visual of planets and DSOs.

Look'n good. I've got my deforked 10" f/10 LX6 outside right now. I used to moon to align my eFinder, and I've now got it pointing at Saturn. As soon as it gets dark I'll get the focus set.

Fun stuff.

My not a Edge C9.25 is excellent for bricks and Blue Bottle Flys. Lunar-planetary? Not so much. David

Hey guys, had Black Beauty out last night. It was nice and clear with a pretty "wavy" atmosphere! I did take some quick shots but then checked collimation and it was off a tad, so spent about 15 minutes improving that. By that time Saturn and the moon were behind my chimney so I decided to do some gazing since I had the EP in anyway.

First target was M 57 and had a wonderful view of it despite the moon. Next I slewed to M 13 and actually gasped! Lot's of pinpoint stars and without averted vision. Went over to the Cat's Eye and was pleased to pick out some structure in it.

Finally I just checked out the star fields in Cygnus and did not notice any noticeable coma on the stars at the edge of the field.

Tonight is supposed to be clear again so I'll check out it's performance some more photographically, but from what I saw last night I am very pleased.

Sean, it is not FastStar. David, are you saying you have the 9.25 and don't feel it is good for lunar or planetary imaging?

Just kidding on that! I don't do imaging or fly viewing-each to his own-for that matter but my C9.25 is truely fine for visual lunar-planetary. Last night for example with very good conditions the hexagon-though I couldn't tell it was a hexagon-on Saturn wasn't hard at all and the Crepe Ring was just there! The Moon was excellent also. Sounds good Warren! I thoroughly enjoyed my SC8 for several years. The only problem I have with it is that I am having so much fun with my 10".

Last night was really nice up here. The seeing started out rough, but quickly settled once the sun set. I got some really nice images of Saturn at f/20 (5m of focal length). The seeing isn't forecast to be as good this evening, but I may still set up for some resolution tests with M13. And oh yes, globulars at f/10 are a thing of beauty. It is also nice having enough aperture to stand up well at high magnification.

Enjoy!

Welcome to C9.25-land! I also acquired a "new to me" unit from Darkman. I've never been disappointed in this scope. My only issue at the moment is that I'm in smoggy Shanghai China and my baby is under wraps in my home in Michigan (probably good for the scope though). Bu hao! Clear skies to you!

Got my first Saturn with the new scope. Now I'll need to relocate where I normally set up as I could tell the heat coming off the roof of the house was really making the view wavy so I did not try much magnification. This is at f10. The views since I collimated are fantastic! So here is my first go, and I can't wait to get some steady skies and try to get in closer!

John, I hope to get some shots as sharp as you have gotten in the past! Can't wait to see what you caught the other night.

Warren,

Nice start to a 925 imaging career!! Great shot! What capture software and camera did ou use? How many images stacked?

In awe,

Jim

Hey Jim, thanks! I use an Imaging Source DMK31AU03 and the IC capture software that comes with it. This image was 1500 frames of R, G and B taken at 30 fps, best 80% stacked in Registax 6.

Rigel could you do me a favor and give me the diameter of the focus knob? I won't receive my C9.25 till Friday (very excited) and I have found a scopestuff focus knob that has a 1" diameter hole and am wondering if it will work.

Thanks for your help

Mine is an older model, the focus knob has ridges on it, and the widest point is 7/8" and it is about 1" tall.
