When we reach the name-calling stage, maybe it's time to call it a night?
There are at least two other threads on this subject going. This one has gotten pretty silly.

This thread did so well for so long. I really thought we had made serious progress in dealing with difficult subject matter.

Cotts, you are being very nice about it. Thank you for that.

Folks, there are still serious issues here for the hobby.

It's "Crikey." Christmas has nothing to do with it.

I worked with someone in my previous life who used Crikey on a regular basis. It really is a great expression since it stands out when said out loud without the low coefficient of social acceptability afforded by profane exclamations.

There will be only two revelant facts at the end:

Did Sunny do a deal?

What was the final price, if any?

After that, Meade will no longer exist and nothing about a re-organization or any other internal issues will be made public.

We could start a pool on the final sale price, if any.

Nothing of any consequence will happen in the next 30 days.

Funerals can oftentimes be messy affairs.

Now, quiet please. Here comes some fellow to read the eulogy....

It's even worse with the smart phones and not only spell check but spell correct that will produce words that have absolutely nothing to do with what you're tryin to say whatsoever . I've got to go through posts three or four times before they come out right . Even then I catch flack here and there .

So if any of y'all don't quite like what I have to say , it was my iPhone in action .

Jon,

I have NO clue on bird watching. NO CLUE.

Still I was shocked to meet a few folks doing nature viewing with it twelve or so years ago (more on the smaller aperture vs. larger). Nature meaning more than birds, but other animals and terrain....

My guess is, and I could be wrong, being a public company they were looking for many ways to expand and make their share holders happy. Weather stations?

Andrew:

For terrestrial spotting, for most sorts of daytime viewing, refractors generally are the choice. A few use CATs but the difficulty is that the "seeing" and thermal issues limit the magnification and resolution in most situations.

In any event, the difference between Meade's and Celestron's approach seemed relevant. Meade seemed to try to exploit the market, Celestron seemed to try to service the market.

Jim,

Thank you for the most excellent post in this thread in quite some time (even though several of the important words in your link cannot be repeated here). A good laugh out loud was needed at this point.

And thank you for your kindness Cotts. The offending moniker has been removed.

Now please put a stake in this thread and lets start a new one when there is some actual news. Until then there is really nothing else to say.

Great summation!

Hmmmm...

Well yes I have sinned a great sin. I have not completed all my testing on the LX850. I have not purchased and used all their is. I unfortunately am not a hoarder. A true person in this hobby has used all, purchased all, collected all. I should have kept my RV-6. Sighhhh

Well, we have established in these million posts (give or take):
* Meade is in a heap o' trouble
* LX850....gosh!
* Sunny is Celestron in disguise
* Going public was bad
* Buying Meade is bad
* MITC is out, but a curious side story
* We are curious what will happen next...I am!
* Gotos are GOOD! Gotos are BAD!
* Meade and refractors - forget about it!
* There is a distain for successful people who busted their butts to get there.
* Flying Southwest Airlines is the pinnacle of Jet Setting...Hey, I can take 2 free suitcases! And I love the peanuts!

Note to self...avoid "Deep Space Products".

BTW - I am talking with folks at ES regarding the ES127mm. But that is a different topic and forum.

I am also convinced if I purchased a Planewave (which I would love to in the next 10 years), folks would kiss my toes instead. Heck, I would kiss my toes too!

In the mean time, you have me in a foul mood. I am dealing with mass quantities of requirements in DOORs right now. Those familiar with this know it cannot be good and can make one smarmy...

What next Meade, what next?

Chrikey! I mean...Crikey!

If this thread is closed at this point, please consider making it sticky for a while. I don't know that any of us could survive having to rehash any of this in a month.

Well before the threads goes away. Does Meade own the IP for the scopes they sell or do the manufactures? Can someone start making an ETX 125 ota? The little 5" Mak was nice and cheap. Of course Orion has one for $400.
