SUPERMOON new
      #5935706 - 06/23/13 01:17 AM Attachment (33 downloads)

Hi all,

The (near) SUPERMOON looked awesome last night. Really gorgeous. Who says the full moon is something to avoid? Pic taken by a point and shoot camera handheld up to an eyepiece.

Huge version: SUPERMOON

A half-dozen of our club members gathered in a park last night for a very relaxing observing session with Luna as the primary target. Nice to not worry about teasing out faint fuzzies, but rather to just kick back and compare moon views through various sizes and types of scopes. Sometimes astronomy can and perhaps should be simple and uncomplicated, like a tribal group sitting around the campfire pointing up and going "oh wow."

That's an awesome comment. Sounds like a really great night. And I totally agree... after all what we're doing is connecting to nature.

Thanks for the pic comments Ed and Dob O' Rob... ya, "they" say that the moon is bad, and the full moon is worst. But I've really come to love observing the full moon. The amount of detail you can see when you relax and just observe the center is just staggering. And it really is gorgeous!! So you gotta love the SUPERMOON.

I got to see it last night. It was a wonderful sight. We got one hole in the clouds that allowed us to see it for about 5 minutes. The rest of the time it was dancing with the clouds.

Hi Michael,

I took the Moon shot this morning. I added the Moon shot that I took last year. I didn't find full moon shot with same camera/lens combo.

Oct 2 2012 shot was handheld so it is blurry and wan't near full moon but I think you can see size difference They both are taken with Canon 1Dx and 400mm f/5.6.

Tammy

Amazing. I would've loved that, instead I was super rushed waiting for the moon to peek above my horizon, which for me has mountains so it didn't rise over them until about 9:45 just to get a few snapshots with my iPhone and pack it up to get to work on time. (Yea I work the graveyard shift ;/) But here is my image that I got with my iPhone if anyone is interested.

Here's an afocal shot in monochrome that I took on Sunday night using a 10mm Tele Vue Delos, a lowly 80mm f/5 Orion ShortTube achromat, and a Canon PowerShot SD980 IS camera. The sky was a bit hazy at the time. Lunar North is up.
