My New WellsCargo 4x6 Trailer
      #5951664 - 07/02/13 04:24 PM Attachment (62 downloads)

Just picked it up earlier this afternoon.. Gonna be my newest (and very much needed) astro-buddy. For transporting my 16" Dob hither and thither.

It fits nicely behind my Chrysler 200. I can see over the top of it through my rear view mirror and it is invisible through my side view mirrors. It should present a very small increase in the wind resistance.... The top lid flips up and the rear door becomes a ramp. Loading the 16" will be a breeze! Everything locks up nicely. Very spiffy LED lighting all around, too.

Trailer weight empty is 400 pounds - I can easily manouvre it up my driveway with the trailer dolly I bought yesterday. (my street is too narrow to get a good angle for backing it into my driveway so I park it at the curb and just push it up by hand). The pushing was very easy when the trailer was empty. I will only be putting about another 250 pounds in it so it should push up the slight incline loaded as well.

Pics here and following.

Dave

600+ lbs UP an incline....won't be the easiest thing you'll ever do. Good thing it's a slight incline, you'll still be tired though.

Slight incline and only about 20 feet before it levels off...
should be no problem..

Very nice! What's the max height you can fit inside? Wondering if my 20" scope will fit in one.

No problem towing with the Chrysler 200? I assume you have a 4cyl engine?? Or the V6 engine??

I agree it's very nice! Maybe I can start thinking about downsizing from my GMC Envoy.

Did you have any trouble installing the trailer hitch on the 200? Some of the bumper systems on today's sedan models are not very hitch friendly.

Cheers,

Ron

Will you be able to give us a report on the gas mileage in tow versus the gas mileage of your automobile without the trailer?
Seem the low profile will make a big big difference..!
Jim

assume its he model 461

but from their website it shows it as interior height of 2'6"

the pictures seem more spacious than that.

Cotts: are you coming to Okie-tex this year? Maybe I can get a closer look there. Something like that would work well for me too, I believe!

Lots of questions.

Tvoydan: Inside height is 30". My chrysler 200 is the v6, 285hp, 6 speed. should be no trouble towing 600-700 pounds.

RAKing: the trailer hitch was factory installed by Chrysler and is rated for 2000 pounds but the CAR is only rated for 1000 pounds due to its light weight?

highertheflyer: I have every intention of comparing the gas mileage before and after. My last long trip was to the TSP where the car averaged 8.9 litres/100km (26.4 mpg US, 31.7mpgCDN). The car was loaded to the maximum with all the usual astro gear. On a trip to Bristol Tenn in March with only two people I got 8.1 litres/100km (29.0 mpg US, 34.9 mpg CDN).
I'm hoping to get very close to the 9.0 litres /100km with the trailer. The first use will be this weekend when I will put about 400km on with all my astro gear... I'll do a careful mileage check.

rockethead26: Jim, the ramp was what sold me on this trailer as well as its size and the brand reputation of Wells Cargo. I think it will have very good resale value, too...

MikeInTampa: The interior dimensions are listed as 4'x6'x2'6" but I, too think it is taller inside. I'll do a careful measurement tomorrow and report back.

Don Taylor. Yes the trailer and I will be coming to Okie Tex so you can crawl all over it...... Look for me this year on the west side of the road at the north edge of the field. (I've been on the other side for 6 years. time for a change...

crazyqban: Sergio, you'll see it at Chiefland in Nov or WSP in Feb.

Dave

my guess is that 2'6" reported inside height does not account for the lid height, but I could be wrong. anyway, the reason I asked was to see if it would fit the Husky 37" case from Home Depot, but after checking the specification it shows the height of the chest at 23". So plenty of room. now i just need to try and find one used locally if i can. some of the new places, the price seemed a bit more than I wanted to spend. even looked like these smaller trailers were more than the 4x8 taller trailer from the same company. I couldn't believe it!

anyway, nice trailer, looks like it will work out good for you.

Dave, nice trailer looks perfect for carrying your scope.

One suggestion I would do is go to Harbor Freight and buy some red reflective tape. Run it vertical above your red reflector on each side of the trailer. You want the trailer to be as visible as possible and its low profile might be difficult to see for other cars not expecting you to be towing a trailer.

I use it on my boat trailer and you can see in this picture how bright it is.

The minimum inside height is indeed 30" .

Thanks for the suggestion of reflective tape. I'm off to buy some along with a torque wrench which the Manufacturer says I must have to check the wheel nuts.....

Very Nice!

I've only seen the 4x6's with swing doors, the 5x8's with ramp doors. Was this a special order?

Thanks

Jeff
