Star-Liner telescopes

I can't seem to find an existing thread on Star-Liners, though I haven't checked the archives yet.

Aside from Cave, the Star-Liner was one of the brands we drooled-over in S&T every month, back in the day.

Are there any nice examples in the hands of CN members? Or could someone point me to an archived thread on them?

Thanks gang.

C.

That driveway must drive you nuts!

I'd like to hear more about that focuser. I've never seen one like it.

Homebrew Tim, Ken did that ,1 to 1 on the ball knob side, and reduced to a slo-mo fine focus that was powered with a DC motor and two batt's. Motor and brackets were in such disrepair, I just keep the reduction fine focus manual..

That is indeed a beautiful scope, and first-class restoration. Thank you so much for posting the photos!

Some of Ken's sketches of Saturn done with this scope are in Tom Dobbin's book "Introduction To Observing And Photographing The Solar Sytem" pg.106 Fig.10-5..Ken and Mr. Dobbins were great friends. Mr. Dobbins said that Ken hand ground that mirror in 1959 and that Ken bought everything from Starliner at a later date to fit his mirror spec's

Lol! I didn't realize that was a sled!

Definitely keep the correspondence with the scope. It will hold its value!

This particular Star-Liner and the Criterions were my big-drooler scopes.
