Hyperstar (again)
      #5953713 - 07/03/13 07:54 PM

is Hyperstar the best way to go for
CPC users
wanting to start astrophotography?
what would be the best camera to join it to?
is there a perfect formula astrophotographers
are using :-"CPC-Hyperstar and then"?
do most of these cameras wire up to a mac?
with Hyperstar can I forget the Equatorial Mount?
Please Help as I'm eager to start taking photos
with this scope of mine !

What scope do you have?

To answer your general questions...

"is Hyperstar the best way to go for CPC users wanting to start astrophotography?"

The Best way? Cannot honestly answer that. You can get your feet wet with an Alt/Az mount, a T-Adapter and a focal reducer for much less cost. You will be limited by exposure time to prevent field rotation depending on the part of the sky you are imaging, but you will be imaging.

"what would be the best camera to join it to?"

Any SLR will work or a dedicated astro cam. The SLR will get you started with a T-Adapter. If you get a Hyperstar you will need an adapter(it is included with the Hyperstar) that is camera mount specific due to backfocus.

"is there a perfect formula astrophotographers are using"

If there is, I've yet to discover it. That is an honest answer.

"do most of these cameras wire up to a mac?"
I don't do macs (other than iPad), so no answer for you on that one.

"with Hyperstar can I forget the Equatorial Mount?"

Yes and no. If your target is bright enough to keep the exposures short to prevent field rotation then no, you can forgo a EQ mount. However, the Hyperstar will allow you to go deeper with longer exposures. Longer exposures will require EQ and maybe guiding.

Check out my website and astrobin feed... I'm using the CPC1100, Hyperstar III and a modded Canon T3 body... I capture using a Mac Mini Core 2 Duo with Nebulosity and process with Pixinsight...

I'm not great at AP, but I get some nice images and I enjoy the process..

With the CPC1100, you are really limited by exposure time.. You really need an EQ mount to do long exposures... Thats where the Hyperstar comes into play - it dramatically shortens your imaging times... I use 10-15 second subs most of the time and stack 20-50 of them.
