17 X 10 minutes, QHY9, AT65, LXD75
      #5961495 - 07/09/13 12:11 AM Attachment (33 downloads)

Been having some issues with my Atlas. Thought I had it worked out when I headed up to Table Mountain for an "un-organized star party" last weekend. Friday night I set up the Atlas and set my sights on M17. after several attempts to clean up the guiding, I switched to m31. Got a few subs before the sun came up and shut down(pretty unhappy).

Saturday I spent a little time on the RA worm adjustment and when night came I had planned on running two imaging systems. BUT! Clouds convinced me to avoid any major frustrations. I aborted the Atlas/AT6RC and just configured the QHY9/AT65EDQ/LXD75. Clouds kept rolling through here and there after I had PHD calibrated so I stopped the guiding. Hadn't begun imaging yet...

Finally it cleared, I set the image number to 20 subs of 10 minutes. I never check framing(for all I knew, I was off target)just put my faith in autostar and hit the capture button. I had been contemplating selling the QHY9 but I think I've changed my mind.

It's 3334 X 2494 pixels if you select "view" in the upper right corner and then select "full resulution" Full Image

Here is a crop that's just shy of 100%.

That is one perfectly framed image - beautiful! I really like your processing of this

Hi,

I general it's a very nice image. Whit as Jim says good processing. personally I would increase saturation a tad. Colors are a bit dull especially in the stars. Other than that it's just a lovely image.

Thanks for sharing,

Wouter.

Ooh, nice! Makes me wish I had a view to the south at my imaging site...

Very nice Robert. I agree with Wouter on possibly boosting saturation.

I Just started on this area last night and interesting it looks like I get ~about the same FOV with my 85mm/8300 setup.

Nice. To me the affect of the full image is nicer than the crop. I agree the stars could probably use a little more saturation but I wouldn't necessarily have noted that if others hadn't said something.

Thank All of you!! I'm sure I'll re-visit processing this data. I did try some added saturation in the first version, but wasn't very pleased with the way it worked so I kept it minimal. This is the first NA neb I've done that the dust in the gulf came through so well defined even at close inspection.

What I really like about this shot is it comes off as very "Real" looking. In other words, it is how I believe it might look if you were actually approaching this area from space. Don't get me wrong, I love images with very colorful, saturated colors, but they don't look real. I don't see vivid colors in stars visually, so I have come to appreciate images that are more subtle to allow me to interpret the image as though I am there, and not just admiring a pretty picture.

Thank You Josh, and Warren.

I thought about "not" cranking up any color from the intitial stretch. When I re-process, I'll post a couple versions...
