July 14th sun sketch
      #5973616 - 07/16/13 06:34 AM

Hi.

Extremely nice sky conditions up to 5/5 at the end of the day even if the sun was lower than 10º. Warm temperature but very stable air.

As my dome was opened the whole day I went to check many times. Once, I got a flare from a very small prom at 6 o'clock. I sketched it twice at 10 minutes interval on sketch 3 and 5. I missed the begining of the flare.

Michel. You asked to see the difference in my sketches depending of my observing conditions. You have a very good exemple here. The 3rd and the 6th sketches are the same one at several hours interval. On the 3rd one, my conditions were only 3/5 and not able to zoom more than 225X. On the 6th, my conditions raised to 5/5 and I zoomed to 300X. But look carefully, on the 3rd sketch no filament visible as they are there on the 6th one. That mean I didn't see them at 3/5 conditions because of the turbulence. And I probably missed some very small details in the prom structure because of that. The proms looks similar in both sketches but faint details are missed when conditions are not that good. On a 5/5 conditions, all details are there and so many to draw.

Andre.

Thank you very very much guys.

Michel. I found the perfect way to make things clear about how to explain the difference between each level of conditions mentionned on my sketches. Its the exact same thing as if two persons would go for an eye check at the optometrist. The letters table on the wall you have to read represent the proms on the sun. Two different persons with the same drawing skill level would draw the letters as clear as each other except the one with the perfect vision woudl draw much more fine letters than the one with a bad vision. Sky turbulence reduce the amont of details I can see but either 1/5 or 5/5 will be represented at the same sharpness on the paper by the pencil.

Andre.
