De-forking CPC new
      #5859811 - 05/14/13 12:31 PM

This is posted in Mounts also::
I currently have CPC 9.25 bought used, tracking never has been right, was ok visual but fails A/P. Celestron worked once, still has problems.
Have a new CG-5 and want to de-fork CPC and mount 9.25 on CG-5 and use with Mallincam and telrad finder, no other weight than that. Then will try to sell CPC for parts I guess and sell the CPC HD wedge etc.
Anyone tried this before or something similar?
Thank you Kasey

It should work. A number of people have posted here about successfully deforking CPC scopes to use on GEMs. All you need to add is a dovetail, and there are pre-installed screws at the front and back of the bottom of the OTA to allow that.

Still have wedge tripod and mount. As to mount think may be good for parts. I had sent it into Celestron for Alt clutch and they could not get it right. All the rest was good, will have to try and sell parts I guess. The 9.25 is working well on the CG-5 but miss the CPC wedge ,,
The EQ wedge was easier than the German style EQ, no meridian flip.

Would it be better to sell the CPC as a going concern and get a new (to you) OTA?

Chris

Well could not sell it as it was, how would I have tried to sell it? Defective and celestron could not get it right ? What would the price be? Anyway I pulled the clutch (ALT) apart to inspect it, so is now not a "factory" mount. Now will just have to probably piece mount out and sell tri-pod and wedge separate or sell all as a unit for parts or whatever. Anyway, thats where its at right now. Need to decide how to do it,

The CPC tripod and if it's the new HD wedge, should both sell quickly if priced appropriately. Nexstar SE users could gain a heck of a lot more stability by getting the CPC tripod (the SE tripods are quite poor in comparison).

yes both the wedge and tri-pod are excellent condition. I bought wedge after I got CPC. I bought CPC from planetarium, was floor model, think someone really torqued, forced, or did something to alt clutch but would just lock up, not track, jump from free movement to loose,,, but is all good, not one to complain,

Kasey, let me know if you decide to sell the CPC tripod as I am in the market to upgrade my SE tripod. Shoot me a PM with what your asking for it if you decide to sell.
