Hi folks,

This is first light for my backyard observatory. Living in suburbia, I am limited to narrowband for any type of long exposure imaging... an observatory has finally allowed me to capture significantly more data simply by avoiding the setup and breakdown of gear every night... well worth it (if you are curious I purchased, modified and built plans for the SkyShed ROR observatory).

This image is about 20 hours worth of data... details on astrobin.

that looks great, what is the mix here? looks like SHO (but when i do that it comes out much more green than blue, not surprisingly.)

That's really, really good Ken. The combination of sharp detail yet having smooth background and transitions is astounding. Nice!

Very nice Ken. What imaging software are you using ?

Thanks everyone...

pfile: Sorry, I didn't record the balance... it was more of an eyeball measurement. When I create the color map for a narrowband image, I usually take the Ha (Green) down until I start to see familiar HST palette tones. Then adjust S2 and O3 as necessary. I took 7 hours of O3 and 7 of S2 and the 5 hours of Ha was still, by far, the dominant channel.

Sedat: I used Sequence Generator Pro to capture and (mostly) PixInsight to process (including calibration).

Wow. Beautiful. Nice job on the processing. Congrats on the observatory. I love that area in narrow band, with the shock zones casting (what look like) shadows through the rest of the nebula.

excellent shot
grats on the observatory

it's hard with heavy light pollution, but with enough time, you can get reasonable LRGB shots of well defined objects like small to medium galaxies and PN's. it's the dust and extended objects that won't happen
