Celestron/Zhumell CPC-"12" new
      #5959248 - 07/07/13 04:48 PM Attachment (193 downloads)

Components:
CPC1100 Mount (Arms modified 1" out/6" up)
Zhumell Z12 Dob, all optics original.
Meade Lightbridge 12 Truss System
Still working on a respectable base...

Please be nice... Old OTA was purchased with broken Corrector Plate which now equals Celestron Paper Weight.

This doesn't really fit into any category but thought I'd share. Mount with Primary section is within 1lb of stock CPC1100 with OTA. Truss is 6lbs, Secondary section 4lbs. Didn't even breath hard and balance is within 1lb favoring the primary section. May need to add a bit of weight to the rear, my 31mm Nagler did use some additional clutch.

At first light- a beautiful thing- "Align Success" on first try... Too bad its a bit "swampy" down here in Florida this time of year.

Far more portable then the original Z12...

Congrats! Very impressive!

I have a modified CPC 11 mount with bracket that I use with OTA's up to 8", including my Lunt solar scopes. These are fantastic mounts IMO that with a little creativity can be very versatile.

Best,
Ed L.

At one point this mount had a C-8 with a Celestron Onyx 80 on it. One day I just had some fun with putting a ST-80 and finder on it... kinda star-war(ish)... I did use it at the WSP in '12 with just the ST-80 as a guide scope and the Onyx 80... (I miss that black scope!) I fabbed a cross bar that bolted to 2 end plates that used the arms existing mounting holes. Balanced great!

That's awesome. Great way to salvage the mount and make a big dob easy to use.

How much of a PITA is it to balance the scope, and do you find the base sturdy enough?

Sorny, Thank you.

The mount is GREAT! and very versatile with the right applications. I had fun experimenting as you can see in the previous post.
As far as balancing the OTA, I knew that I needed about 4lbs to be removed from the top side. Luckily, the truss system was the answer. (matter of fact, I've seen threads that the truss system would ADD weight! Not so- the truss system is 40% lighter than the tube).
I have now installed a counterweight to offset some of my heavy eyepieces.
As for the stability of the base... the current application is purely temporary! It is NOT that great and I am trying to see how I can a- use the original tripod top plate or b- something altogether different (such as a nice table base).

As some could appreciate- The build is sometimes as rewarding as the views from the end result.

Here is the SCT Counterweight system bolted onto the Under-side of the primary tube. At 2.5lbs it should give me the flexibility to use the heavier naglers. Weight releases with a simple twist, move, tighten again.

Finally, with an improved base solution, thank you Lowes... and 20.00. (18" wooden circle, 3-5/8 pedestal screws/T-nuts)
Haven't come up with a "wheeled solution" just yet, But I am working on it...
