S&T Digital Poor Text Rendering
      #5984094 - 07/22/13 07:41 AM

Hi

My S&T print subscription is up for renewal and I'm thinking of switching to digital only.

One thing I find surprising is that text rendering of the digital edition on my Windows 8 laptop is so poor. Even if I zoom, the text isn't particularly clear.

If I save to PDF and view the PDF, the text is perfectly clear.

Has anyone else had issues?

Also, I'm thinking of buying a Windows Surface tablet.

What options would be available to view S&T on this device?

PDF is ok but I'd rather an eReader app.

The nxtbook site is a little vague about supported devices and eReaders and I'm not sure if there are further restrictions specific to S&T.

Thanks for any guidance.

Regards
Gavin

Looks great on my Win-7 desktop. As good as the print edition, easily.

Good to know. I don't have issues with any other applications but I'll do some more experimenting.

I've also emailed S&T so hopefully they'll get back to me.

Thanks.

Mine looks great on my PC's and tablet. Haven't noticed any issues...

So read it in pdf format.
You can view it in dual page format, like a magazine, and expand it easily to full screen to make it more readable. Or, you can read it in a large format and scroll the page if your lap top screen is smaller.

I see a reduced resolution either way. It is definitely not the HD format in terms of resolution.

Yep. That seems like the best option. S&T got back to me and essentially said the same.

The nxtbook technology that S&T uses appears to support various eReaders but perhaps S&T is more limited.

Oh well, PDF is what it will have to be but a custom app or better yet, support for eReaders would have been much nicer.

Thanks.

I'm a subscriber for the digital version of S&T magazine but I didn't receive a weblink for the September 2013 issue...
I did get the August 2013 and the October 2013 weblinks ... anyone in the same case (not getting the September 2013 weblink)?

O.K. just for your information: logged on onto S&T website with subscription credentials and found the issue
