No slewing in declination new
      #5994037 - 07/28/13 01:55 AM

I hope the subject line makes sense. (I'm new to this - obviously)

Just bought an old LX200 12. I'm guessing circa 2000. i tested it last night before buying. It slewed in all four directions. It found Saturn by GoTo. Now, tonight, after trying to get it aligned, I tried to slew the 'scope to an area of sky and it would only move east and west. No response when I hit north or south on the control. When using GoTo, it moved only in RA.

Can't figure out what, if anything, I did wrong. Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks.

my club had an LX6 donated to it once that had the opposite problem, Dec worked fine but RA did not. if i recall at least on that specific model the Dec motor was connected via a cord because it was not always standard on it, perhaps you have a bad connection from the mainboard to the DEC motor/encoder.

Maybe. The dec motor cable is external and folks have been known to forget to install it.

Ooops. I wondered about the extra cable...

Thanks so much. I'm relieved that it is not something expensive.
