Help Me Pick a Target
      #6002512 - 08/02/13 01:59 AM

I finally get to bring my equipment to a gray zone and I want to take full advantage of the opportunity and collect LRGB data - haven't done it yet, only narrowband.

I want to target something very dusty. I was thinking a widefield Iris, and was hoping the Aries through Perseus area would be high enough, but not quite yet.

What do you guys and girls think?

Thanks!

I'd vote for the Iris, lot's of dark dust and that beautiful blue core, and it begs for a dark site to get good results.

Make that a 2nd vote for the Iris. It should be on everyone's dark site list.

Iris it is!

I'm currently working on determining proper sub exposure for all channels taking my one night into consideration.

I was thinking:

18 x 10m for L @1x1
6 x 5m for RGB @2x2

Should I or should I not bin the colour data? My only concern is the *small* window of opportunity to gather what I can.

Given it is one night only, I think you are going to need to bin the color data unless you go with synthetic L and shoot just color.
