M13 from Parsippany with 4" f/28 Schief

Here is my first attempt at imaging a DSO using a very very slow home made 4" f/28 Schiefspiegler telescope. This image has been reduced in size for posting on this site.

Image data: 20 lights, 180 seconds x ISO 1600 each. Stacked with only 5 darks and NO flats. [I have not recorded any flats yet with this optical train.]

If you want to learn more about the telescope used, go here:

http://www.clearskyobserver.com/index.php/20-telescopemaking/21-4-schiefspiegler

The focal length of this small telescope is approximately 117 inches. A little longer than a C11 SCT, but shorter than a C14 SCT.

Quite impressive Allen - I haven't ever seen an image on this forum from a homemade scope, let alone a scope with a name I could possibly spell correctly! Very novel, and your image is quite good. You chose your target well.

Thanks Scott,

I have not posted a DSO image here before. I just thought this image taken with a very slow telescope with long-ish focal length [for its size] might be of interest to this group.

Coolness! If nothing else it shows that there isn't any noticeable astigmatism. The resolution looks very good. I've got a set of antique 5" blanks that I have been holding onto for years with the thought my making a Schiefspiegler. One of these days...

There is a yahoo group for Schief's. Go here for them.

They helped and supported me each step of the way.
