Processing video from ASI120MC
      #6033088 - 08/18/13 03:35 PM

I took three videos of Saturn last night about 2000 frames each. I cannot open these with Registax or Castrator. This maybe due to their size, 7 Gb each. Any ideas on how to work with files of this size?

You might try to convert each video into a series of images. (Avidemux 2.5.1, ffmpeg ...) Avidemux saves a .jpg, hence ffmpeg might be the better option.

Example:
ffmpeg -i "myvideo.avi" -an -f image2 "output_%05d.png"

Best regards,
Klaus

Try using AutoStakkert!2

Thanks, I will look into that. Going to take a few more photos tonight limiting file size.

Sorry, just saw this...use VirtualDub "File > Open Video File" then check to make sure "Video > Direct stream copy" is bulletted and then "File > Save as AVI" making sure you add "copy" or somesuch to the name you give it and noting where you file it!

Likely as not when you open the large video in Vdub a window will appear telling you the missing file index is being reconstructed and when it finishes doing said you click "OK" and proceed with the task as above...

Usually this scenario is required for files above about 4Gb.....if you achieved 7Gb files with only 2000 frames I presume they were taken at a very large (widefield) scale/resolution..?

These PITA compatibility issues are the very reason I have my capture settings in FireCapture set to limit to 4GB. Fortunately, with Winjupos, that doesn't present any issue other than additional processing time.
